The idea of a tribute to the Finnish band SKEPTICISM appeared in my head back in 2001. I made some initial plans and not so long after I contacted the first bands I knew might have been interested. Obviously, as it is the case with such projects, some of them responded positively, some not. The line-up of participating bands had changed several times until it finally settled for good about a year ago. The range of artists is not quite wide when it comes to the genre itself because more or less all of them are considered to be doom metal acts or have some evident connotations with the scene. However, the result music-wise is very diverse, which definitely stands as an advantage of this project. I hope this double album will please doom metal fans all over the world who will appreciate the effort these fine artists put into paying homage to the godfathers of funeral doom.

Arek (FORESHADOW)

Skepticism music is a special territory. A non-extensive locality which is situated neither here nor there, it is rather a possibility, a becoming. A dimensionless singularity - a seed of creation and entropy, in the bowels of the earth, in the heights of the aether, in the middle of nowhere. From here simple things are called and they step forth as they truly are - the messengers and guides of Being itself: Forest and Stream, Mountain and Air.

Twelve courageous travelers set out for this land, to map or to cultivate it, to camp or to settle there.

What kind of transport can take them there? Is this journey doomed to fail, or will the process of travel itself bring them closer to locus than to any place they will finally arrive at?

Your humble artist witnesses this epic journey... Can an image capture the never-ceasing coming-to-be of this music? Should it? At least it can provide the imagination with a vehicle, or a screen to secure the mystery behind...

Nick Teplov (the graphic artist)

NEST (Fin)

"Skepticism has been and still is one of my top 3 favorite bands of all time, and I'm glad that I and Nest got a chance to pay tribute to them this way. Because Stormcrowfleet is historically significant to me, we wanted to cover something from it."

-|-|-

SHROUD OF BEREAVEMENT (USA)

"Skepticism helped pave the way for death/doom metal throughout the world, and for this we are greatful. Their music has helped mold the shape of our music."

-|-|-

SHAPE OF DESPAIR (Fin)

"Skepticism has been an influence to most of the members in Shape of Despair in a way or another for quite a long time. (...) As we play it slow, Skepticism plays it even slower."

-|-|-

WHY ANGELS FALL (Por)

"Skepticism has always been a full influence on the way we think and do music. (...) More than just a band I always thought of Skepticism as an extension of philosophy, a soundtrack to the thoughts we sometimes dwell in."

-|-|-

CORPUS OMNI DOMINI (Fin)

"Our first MCD came out around the same time as Stormcrowfleet was released, so Skepticism was never a direct influence to us. But at the time we were aware of their impact on the scene and appreciated that Finnish doom was gaining momentum, consequently opening some doors for us as well."

-|-|-

OKTOR (Pol)

"Skepticism are not to talk about, but to listen to."

-|-|-

AARNI (Fin)

"Many Aarni members have always admired Skepticism's home town, which is renowned for its natural beauty, its happy character and its good prospects for the future."

-|-|-

MONOLITHE (Fra)

"Skepticism creates a world of its own, a place made to let your soul flow freely. They show you death, they show you the void, they show you gigantic monuments. Skepticism creates music that transports you far beyond with very simple means. This is what I call TALENT."

-|-|-

CALMSITE (Fin)

"Well, the guys in Skepticism are friends of ours and come from the town as we do. It was interesting to do Skepticism cover song. The track is from their first ever release: 7" vinyl single. It has two songs "Towards My End" and "Castles Far Away". We combined them in to a one song."

-|-|-

RIGOR SARDONICOUS (USA)

"Skepticism delivers among the most introspective and sombre of all sonic achievement."

-|-|-

DARKFLIGHT (Bul)

"Looking back in the early nineties the Finns Skepticism, Unholy and Thergothon had a big influence on us and the extremest underground doom scene, we are glad that we had a chance to participate in this tribute and pay respect to Skepticism."

-|-|-

IT WILL COME (Swe)

"We chose to cover the song "The Falls" because it is a great song, and we feel that the melancholy of that song is not far away from the music we write ourselves - it has a similar feeling."
